WQLN was first incorporated by a citizen's group called
Educational Television of Northwest Pennsylvania.
Education has always been part of Public Broadcasting of Northwest PA's primary mission. The original call letters of our station were first envisioned as
W L R N or
Learn-TV. The call letters WLRN were already chosen so Educational Television of Northwest Pennsylvania next selected
WQLN, which stood for "
We Question and Learn".
40 years later WQLN FM 91.3 enhanced our founding fathers' vision of local educational programming and launched the "We Question and Learn" interview program heard Sundays at 4 p.m., monthly, on WQLN-FM, Q-91.3.
"We Question and Learn" is dedicated to being a community interest program devoting an entire hour to interviews with Erie's prominent leaders, business people, educators, focusing in on business and technology as well as interviews with community development leaders.
For example, the January 1st, 2006 "WE QUESTION AND LEARN" broadcast started off the New Year with an interview that explored the world of technology and how it will specifically affect economic development in Northwest Pennsylvania. Our guests were Courtney Mallen, Director of the Technology Council of Northwest Pennsylvania, Laith Wardi, President of Executive Pulse, a technology consulting firm, and Joel Deuterman, President of Softek and Velocity.Net(*).
WQLN is fortunate to have the WE QUESTION AND LEARN interview program underwritten by the Lord Corporation, Strategy Solutions, and the Erie Community Foundation.
As we paint a verbal picture of business and economic development in our community for today and into the future, we look for your suggestions for "WE QUESTION AND LEARN" interviews. Feel free to contact Tom Pysz at 814-217-6073.
