Erie National Wildlife Refuge's 12th Biennial Photo Contest

Erie National Wildlife Refuge in Guys Mills, Pa will host its twelfth biennial photo contest as part of National Wildlife Refuge Week 2009. The contest is open to any amateur photographer.
Competition will be held in three major categories: Plant Life, Wildlife, and Landscape.
The following awards will be presented in each of the categories:
First place -- $50; Second place -- $25; Third place -- ribbons; Honorable mention -- ribbons.
Also the judges will present a $75 cash award for the best photo taken on the Erie National Wildlife Refuge overall and a $25 award to the best student (under 18) photo overall.
A maximum of eight (8) photos may be entered with a fee of $5.00 per entry. Photos may be digital or film prints in color or black and white and must be 8x10, 9x12, or 11x14 matted and unframed. The deadline for entries is Monday, September 28, 2009. Judging will occur on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the refuge office at 11296 Wood Duck Lane, Guys Mills, PA. The winners will be announced at an Awards Reception at 1:30 p.m. that same day. The photographs will remain on display at the refuge from October 11 through November 13. Entries may be picked up after that date.The event is sponsored by the Friends of Erie National Wildlife Refuge and the Presque Isle Audubon Society. Fundamentals of Fundraising Course at Penn State Behrend & Dubois

Regional fundraising professionals are scheduled to teach “The Fundamentals of Fundraising," a Penn State Continuing Education certificate program available to nonprofit administrators, working fundraising professionals, volunteers with fundraising responsibility or anyone wishing to enter the development profession. The course will be offered this fall at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, in cooperation with the Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).Classes will meet at Penn State Behrend from 5:30pm until 8:00pm on Mondays between September 14 and November 30. The course also will be available at the Penn State DuBois campus via live videoconference. Course topics are as follows: Starting a Development Program: An Overview of Fundraising; Marketing, Public Relations and Special Events; Effective Annual Appeals;Creating Success: Fearless Major Gifts Fundraising; Solicitation and the Donors Perspective; Capital Campaigns; Volunteer Management 101: Developing and Implementing an Effective Program; Technology for NPOs: Donor Information Management and the Internet; The Big Idea: Vision Statements, Mission Statements and Writing Winning Proposals; The Basics of Planned Giving: Assuring Your Future While Enhancing Your Present; Accountability; and Ethics and the Law, Pulling it all Together: The Development Plan. "The Fundamentals of Fundraising" can be used to satisfy a portion of the education requirement for the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) professional designation, as well as to earn Penn State Continuing Education Units. The cost of the course is $650 ($550 for AFP members). Erie County CROP WALK

Support for Erie County CROP WALK needed this year more than ever

With the current state of the economy, this year’s CROP Walk is crucial to assist the hungry both locally and around the world.

The Erie County Crop Walk 2009 is set for Sunday, September 27, 2009. The walk begins at the Beach 1 Parking Lot at Presque Isle State Park at 1:30 PM.

CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. That is just what this well established community event (34 years) does by raising funds for local and international agencies that work to feed the hungry.

Erie County CROP Walk is the largest in Pennsylvania, averaging 1,000 walkers each year. So far, Erie County CROP Walk has raised $1.8 Million with $450,000 being distributed in Erie County. Walkers, donors and sponsors are currently being signed up at:

Dinner in Old Russia

The Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity announces its 14th Annual Dinner in Old Russia on Sunday, October 4 at the Church Community Center, 109 German Street.

This year's menu includes Chicken Kiev, dilled potatoes, homemade cabbage rolls and homemade Russian crepes with fruit sauce.. Tickets are $12.00 for adults, $6.00 for children aged 4-9; children under 4 are free. Tickets can be purchased by calling Patty Gregoroff at 456-2386. Seatings are 12:30pm, 1:45pm, 3:00pm and 4:15. Take-out dinners are also available. Entertainment includes ethnic music by the St. Nicholas Balalaika Orchestra. The Erie Kennel Club will hold back-to-back all-breed/ obedience/ rally dog shows on January 30 & 31, 2010 at the Bayfront Convention Center. This event is attended by dogs from all over the US, including Canada. Many of the dogs that you will see at the Westminster Dog Show aired in February will be present at the Erie Kennel Club shows. Many vendors will be selling dog items and the Erie Kennel Club will offer a Romolo's 3ld. Chocolate dog with the drawing held before Best in Show on Sunday.

Dinner in Old Russia

The Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity announces its 14th Annual Dinner in Old Russia on Sunday, October 4 at the Church Community Center, 109 German Street.

This year's menu includes Chicken Kiev, dilled potatoes, homemade cabbage rolls and homemade Russian crepes with fruit sauce.. Tickets are $12.00 for adults, $6.00 for children aged 4-9; children under 4 are free. Tickets can be purchased by calling Patty Gregoroff at 456-2386. Seatings are 12:30pm, 1:45pm, 3:00pm and 4:15. Erie National Wildlife Refuge's 12th Biennial Photo Contest

Erie National Wildlife Refuge in Guys Mills, Pa will host its twelfth biennial photo contest as part of National Wildlife Refuge Week 2009. The contest is open to any amateur photographer.
Competition will be held in three major categories: Plant Life, Wildlife, and Landscape.
The following awards will be presented in each of the categories:
First place -- $50; Second place -- $25; Third place -- ribbons; Honorable mention – ribbons.
Also the judges will present a $75 cash award for the best photo taken on the Erie National Wildlife Refuge overall and a $25 award to the best student (under 18) photo overall.
A maximum of eight (8) photos may be entered with a fee of $5.00 per entry. Photos may be digital or film prints in color or black and white and must be 8”x10”, 9”x12” or 11”x14” matted and unframed. The deadline for entries is Monday, September 28, 2009. Judging will occur on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the refuge office at 11296 Wood Duck Lane, Guys Mills, PA. The winners will be announced at an Awards Reception at 1:30 p.m. that same day. The photographs will remain on display at the refuge from October 11 through November 13. Entries may be picked up after that date.The event is sponsored by the Friends of Erie National Wildlife Refuge and the Presque Isle Audubon Society. Fundamentals of Fundraising Course at Penn State Behrend & Dubois

Regional fundraising professionals are scheduled to teach “The Fundamentals of Fundraising,” a Penn State Continuing Education certificate program available to nonprofit administrators, working fundraising professionals, volunteers with fundraising responsibility or anyone wishing to enter the development profession. The course will be offered this fall at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, in cooperation with the Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).Classes will meet at Penn State Behrend from 5:30pm until 8:00pm on Mondays between September 14 and November 30. The course also will be available at the Penn State DuBois campus via live videoconference. Course topics are as follows: Starting a Development Program: An Overview of Fundraising; Marketing, Public Relations and Special Events; Effective Annual Appeals;Creating Success: Fearless Major Gifts Fundraising; Solicitation and the Donors Perspective; Capital Campaigns; Volunteer Management 101: Developing and Implementing an Effective Program; Technology for NPOs: Donor Information Management and the Internet; The Big Idea: Vision Statements, Mission Statements and Writing Winning Proposals; The Basics of Planned Giving: Assuring Your Future While Enhancing Your Present; Accountability; and Ethics and the Law, Pulling it all Together: The Development Plan. “The Fundamentals of Fundraising” can be used to satisfy a portion of the education requirement for the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) professional designation, as well as to earn Penn State Continuing Education Units. The Erie Kennel Club will hold back-to-back all-breed/ obedience/ rally dog shows on January 30 & 31, 2010 at the Bayfront Convention Center. This event is attended by dogs from all over the US, including Canada. Many of the dogs that you will see at the Westminster Dog Show aired in February will be present at the Erie Kennel Club shows. Many vendors will be selling dog items and the Erie Kennel Club will offer a Romolo’s 3ld. Chocolate dog with the drawing held before Best in Show on Sunday.

Erie National Wildlife Refuge's 12th Biennial Photo Contest

Erie National Wildlife Refuge in Guys Mills, Pa will host its twelfth biennial photo contest as part of National Wildlife Refuge Week 2009. The contest is open to any amateur photographer.
Competition will be held in three major categories: Plant Life, Wildlife, and Landscape.
The following awards will be presented in each of the categories:
First place -- $50; Second place -- $25; Third place -- ribbons; Honorable mention – ribbons.
Also the judges will present a $75 cash award for the best photo taken on the Erie National Wildlife Refuge overall and a $25 award to the best student (under 18) photo overall.
A maximum of eight (8) photos may be entered with a fee of $5.00 per entry. Photos may be digital or film prints in color or black and white and must be 8”x10”, 9”x12” or 11”x14” matted and unframed. The deadline for entries is Monday, September 28, 2009. Judging will occur on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the refuge office at 11296 Wood Duck Lane, Guys Mills, PA. The winners will be announced at an Awards Reception at 1:30 p.m. that same day. The photographs will remain on display at the refuge from October 11 through November 13. Entries may be picked up after that date.The event is sponsored by the Friends of Erie National Wildlife Refuge and the Presque Isle Audubon Society. Fundamentals of Fundraising Course at Penn State Behrend & Dubois

Regional fundraising professionals are scheduled to teach “The Fundamentals of Fundraising,” a Penn State Continuing Education certificate program available to nonprofit administrators, working fundraising professionals, volunteers with fundraising responsibility or anyone wishing to enter the development profession. The course will be offered this fall at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, in cooperation with the Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).Classes will meet at Penn State Behrend from 5:30pm until 8:00pm on Mondays between September 14 and November 30. The course also will be available at the Penn State DuBois campus via live videoconference. Course topics are as follows: Starting a Development Program: An Overview of Fundraising; Marketing, Public Relations and Special Events; Effective Annual Appeals;Creating Success: Fearless Major Gifts Fundraising; Solicitation and the Donors Perspective; Capital Campaigns; Volunteer Management 101: Developing and Implementing an Effective Program; Technology for NPOs: Donor Information Management and the Internet; The Big Idea: Vision Statements, Mission Statements and Writing Winning Proposals; The Basics of Planned Giving: Assuring Your Future While Enhancing Your Present; Accountability; and Ethics and the Law, Pulling it all Together: The Development Plan. “The Fundamentals of Fundraising” can be used to satisfy a portion of the education requirement for the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) professional designation, as well as to earn Penn State Continuing Education Units. Erie County CROP WALK

Support for Erie County CROP WALK needed this year more than ever

With the current state of the economy, this year’s CROP Walk is crucial to assist the hungry both locally and around the world.

The Erie County Crop Walk 2009 is set for Sunday, September 27, 2009. The walk begins at the Beach 1 Parking Lot at Presque Isle State Park at 1:30 PM.

CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. That is just what this well established community event (34 years) does by raising funds for local and international agencies that work to feed the hungry.

Erie County CROP Walk is the largest in Pennsylvania, averaging 1,000 walkers each year. So far, Erie County CROP Walk has raised $1.8 Million with $450,000 being distributed in Erie County. Walkers, donors and sponsors are currently being signed up at:

Dinner in Old Russia

The Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity announces its 14th Annual Dinner in Old Russia on Sunday, October 4 at the Church Community Center, 109 German Street.

This year's menu includes Chicken Kiev, dilled potatoes, homemade cabbage rolls and homemade Russian crepes with fruit sauce.. Erie County CROP WALK

Support for Erie County CROP WALK needed this year more than ever

With the current state of the economy, this year’s CROP Walk is crucial to assist the hungry both locally and around the world.

The Erie County Crop Walk 2009 is set for Sunday, September 27, 2009. The walk begins at the Beach 1 Parking Lot at Presque Isle State Park at 1:30 PM.

CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. That is just what this well established community event (34 years) does by raising funds for local and international agencies that work to feed the hungry.

Erie County CROP Walk is the largest in Pennsylvania, averaging 1,000 walkers each year. So far, Erie County CROP Walk has raised $1.8 Million with $450,000 being distributed in Erie County. Walkers, donors and sponsors are currently being signed up at:

Dinner in Old Russia

The Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity announces its 14th Annual Dinner in Old Russia on Sunday, October 4 at the Church Community Center, 109 German Street.

This year's menu includes Chicken Kiev, dilled potatoes, homemade cabbage rolls and homemade Russian crepes with fruit sauce.. Erie National Wildlife Refuge's 12th Biennial Photo Contest

Erie National Wildlife Refuge in Guys Mills, Pa will host its twelfth biennial photo contest as part of National Wildlife Refuge Week 2009. The contest is open to any amateur photographer.
Competition will be held in three major categories: Plant Life, Wildlife, and Landscape.
The following awards will be presented in each of the categories:
First place -- $50; Second place -- $25; Third place -- ribbons; Honorable mention – ribbons.
Also the judges will present a $75 cash award for the best photo taken on the Erie National Wildlife Refuge overall and a $25 award to the best student (under 18) photo overall.
A maximum of eight (8) photos may be entered with a fee of $5.00 per entry. Photos may be digital or film prints in color or black and white and must be 8”x10”, 9”x12” or 11”x14” matted and unframed. The deadline for entries is Monday, September 28, 2009. Judging will occur on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the refuge office at 11296 Wood Duck Lane, Guys Mills, PA. The winners will be announced at an Awards Reception at 1:30 p.m. that same day. The photographs will remain on display at the refuge from October 11 through November 13. Entries may be picked up after that date.The event is sponsored by the Friends of Erie National Wildlife Refuge and the Presque Isle Audubon Society. Fundamentals of Fundraising Course at Penn State Behrend & Dubois

Regional fundraising professionals are scheduled to teach “The Fundamentals of Fundraising,” a Penn State Continuing Education certificate program available to nonprofit administrators, working fundraising professionals, volunteers with fundraising responsibility or anyone wishing to enter the development profession. The course will be offered this fall at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, in cooperation with the Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).Classes will meet at Penn State Behrend from 5:30pm until 8:00pm on Mondays between September 14 and November 30. The course also will be available at the Penn State DuBois campus via live videoconference. Course topics are as follows: Starting a Development Program: An Overview of Fundraising; Marketing, Public Relations and Special Events; Effective Annual Appeals;Creating Success: Fearless Major Gifts Fundraising; Solicitation and the Donors Perspective; Capital Campaigns; Volunteer Management 101: Developing and Implementing an Effective Program; Technology for NPOs: Donor Information Management and the Internet; The Big Idea: Vision Statements, Mission Statements and Writing Winning Proposals; The Basics of Planned Giving: Assuring Your Future While Enhancing Your Present; Accountability; and Ethics and the Law, Pulling it all Together: The Development Plan. “The Fundamentals of Fundraising” can be used to satisfy a portion of the education requirement for the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) professional designation, as well as to earn Penn State Continuing Education Units. The Grandparent Support Group for grandparents of children with developmental disabilities will meet on Thursday, Oct. 8 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Dr. Gertrude A. Barber National Institute. Fred Chovan, school psychologist at the Barber National Institute, will discuss “What is the Autism Spectrum?”. The presentation will be followed by an opportunity for the group to share questions and experiences. The Grandparent Support Group is sponsored by Family Support Services at the Barber Institute and will meet on the second Thursday of every month. One Sweet Show

The Erie Kennel Club will hold back-to-back all-breed/ obedience/ rally dog shows on January 30 & 31, 2010 at the Bayfront Convention Center. This event is attended by dogs from all over the US, including Canada. Many of the dogs that you will see at the Westminster Dog Show aired in February will be present at the Erie Kennel Club shows. Many vendors will be selling dog items and the Erie Kennel Club will offer a Romolo’s 3ld. Chocolate dog with the drawing held before Best in Show on Sunday.
