Saturday Swing Session - Saturdays 8pm-11pm

Saturday Swing Session started as a one-hour Big Band program on Saturday mornings, the first program being broadcast on July 6, 1985 at 10 a.m.

The program later was moved to 11 a.m. on Saturday mornings, then increased to two hours on Saturday mornings. After another few years, the program was moved to Saturday evenings, and the time increased to three hours, which is where it stands now.

The program originally consisted of, mainly, big band recordings from the Big Band Era. I was quite familiar with the music, since I grew up during that wonderful era, and once in awhile would go to theaters for "live" performances by the big bands. I saw Stan Kenton, Tommy Dorsey, and, I blush about this, even Henry Busse and his corny band. Later on, my future wife and I haunted the local dance halls, danced to Ray Anthony and Les Brown, and were, proudly, Sauter-Finegan groupies.

I digress. After playing lots of big band music, I decided to include some of the tastier jazz recordings from my extensive collection. Saturday Swing Session now consists of about a 50-50 mix of jazz and big bands, with vocals in the mix.

I have certainly enjoyed thoroughly my time at WQLN, hope that the time will continue as long as I am able to speak.
