Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long should I fast?
A: We recommend that you refrain from consuming all food and beverages, including coffee and tea, for at least 13 hours prior to blood testing. However, feel fee to consume all the water you wish during this time.

Q: What happens if I forget to fast?
A: Your physician will need to know that you did not fast to properly interpret your report. Be sure to tell us when you arrive and we will make note of it at that time.

Q: I am currently taking prescription medication under the direction of my physician. Should I continue to take this medication?
A: It is important that you continue to take all medications as prescribed by your physician.

Q: I am diabetic and may become ill with a long, 13 hour fast. What do you suggest?
A: When you arrive for your appointment, ask for the "team leader." The team leader will expedite your processing through the program.

Q: I have been told that I have "rolling veins" and am difficult to draw. Should I come to your program?
A: AMBA Wellness Programs retains a professional staff of skilled and experienced phlebotomists. They are accustomed to handling "tough" draws. If you have had difficulty having your blood drawn in the past, simply mention this to the team leader when you arrive for your appointment. We do not, however, use butterfly needles.

Q: Are these tests covered by insurance?
A: These tests are used for screening purposes only and will not be covered by Medicare and most other insurance companies. We are unable to bill Medicare for any testing performed at a health fair.

Q: Isn't it true that I can have these tests covered by insurance if my physician orders them as part of an office visit?
A: We encourage you to do so, if this true. However, it has been our experience that a physician cannot order these tests and have them covered by insurance unless there is a documented illness or medical diagnosis.

Q: Is there any risk of contracting disease by attending this program?
A: AMBA Wellness Programs exceeds the recommendations of state and federal regulatory agencies with regard to the use of Universal Precautions at our program. AMBA phlebotomists change gloves between each participant and all medical implements are sterile and disposable. You can attend our program with complete confidence.

Q: Are the results of these tests confidential?
A: Absolutely. AMBA Wellness Programs adheres to strict confidentiality guidelines. In addition to this, we are deeply committed to maintaining the highest personal and ethical business standards possible. You can be sure that your test results will be treated with the utmost confidence. Only your personal physician ordering the test will have access to these results.

Q: When will my doctor receive my results?
A: Your physician's report will be mailed within 7 working days of the program.

Q: When will I receive a copy of my results?
A: If you are an individual attending one of AMBA's community programs, whether or not you automatically receive a copy of your report depends solely upon your physician. If your physician authorizes the release of a duplicate report to patients, then one will be mailed to you within 10 working days of the program. Some physicians do not authorize the release of a duplicate report. State regulations vary regarding the release of test results to patients.

Q: What number do I call to make an appointment or to ask questions?
A: 1-800-234-8888 Monday through Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm EST

Q: What information do I need when I make my appointment?
A: You will need to have on hand your doctors' information, correct spelling, address and phone number. You will be asked for your name, address, age and phone number. So please keep in mind if you are making an appointment for a friend or relative you will need all of this information on each person to do so.

Q: If I'm going to pay by check who do I make my check payable to?
A: We accept check or money order only. You will be making your check payable to AMBA Wellness Programs for $32.00 and one to WQLN for $5.00.

Q: How does WQLN benefit from hosting this program?
A: This is a fundraiser for WQLN. All proceeds from this event will be used to support the programs on TV and Radio as well as their education programs. The station will receive $5.00 of the $37.00 total from each person.

Q: I was told I need to bring a written permission with me. Why?
A: You need to have your doctor's authorization to attend our program. Some doctors would rather you call their office to get a permission slip to attend then to give us advance authorization.

Please keep in mind that this needs to be on official letterhead or a prescription pad and has to state that you may have the AMBA Blood work done. If you would like to receive a copy, your physician needs to write patient may receive a copy on the written permission slip.

Q: On my report, there is a section at the top that says patient ID#/Social Security #.
A: That ID number is not the patients' social security number. Currently, we do not require the social security number. That ID number is off the requisition. Each patient receives a requisition at the program. On that requisition are stickers with the ID number that is applied to each patients/ tubes. That ID number will then generate from the tube to the report.

Q: Can I get medical interpretation of my results from AMBA?
A: We are not medical professionals. Therefore, we cannot interpret results. We recommend that patients call their personal physicians.

Q: Why do I need a doctor to attend this program?
A: In order to have blood work done it needs to be ordered and reviewed by a physician. Your personal physician is the best person to interpret your lab results because he/she is the one who has knowledge of your medical history.
