Early Literacy: The Secret Meanings of Nursery Rhymes |
| Instructor: |
Linda Caldwell |
| Date: |
Saturday, October 18, 2008 |
| Time: |
8:30:00 AM |
| Tuition: |
DPW $5 ACT48 $30 |
| Act 48 Hours: |
4 |
| Grade Level: |
|
| Description: |
Many nursery rhymes had their origins in England and their secret meanings have been lost with the passing of time. Usually rhymes depicted events or tragedies of execution or torture that rhymed so the uneducated commoners of the time who could not read or write could remember them. This form of a newspaper of that day has been passed down from generation to generation starting from the 14th century, to rhymes that we recite to our children today. Learners will enjoy plenty of group participation, ending with a rhyme created by the participant about a current event of today that will be passed to future generations a hundred years from now! |
