George Winston in Concert |
George Winston will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22 in the Bromeley Family Theater on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. The price for the public is $26 and $22; all students are $11 and $9. George Winston concerts feature a variety of styles, including New Orleans R&B, stride piano and the style pioneered by Winston himself, melodic folk piano.
Classical guitarist Sharon Isbin will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8 in the Bromeley Family Theater on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Isbin has collaborated with many personalities of our time, from Muhammad Ali to Melissa Etheridge. Her music has appeared in films and on television and radio, including the soundtrack of Martin Scorsese’s Academy Award winning "The Departed" and Showtime's "The L Word."

Pigs at Sea is the story of two remarkable men, Great Lakes captains who could not have been more different. Across the state, 27 local REALTOR® associations have planned events to raise money. Collecting food for the Erie City Mission Saturday, October 25, 2008 from 8 am to 4 pm (10 am would be a great time to talk with Board of Realtors President Tom Smith)
Wal-Mart 4950 West 23rd Street, Erie, PA. Over 500 members of the Greater Erie Board of REALTORS® will be involved in this statewide event. All donations locally will benefit The Erie City Mission Family Care Center where families and individuals living in poverty, (many are the “working poor”), can get emergency groceries and other necessities on a weekly basis. Gov. Ed Rendell proclaimed Oct. 20 - 26, 2008 Pennsylvania Association of REALTORS® Reach Out Week in the Commonwealth in recognition of REALTORS®’ volunteerism throughout the Commonwealth. REALTORS® are joining their local associations to volunteer in communities concurrently throughout the week. He stated, “These dedicated professionals advance civil development and economic growth in the Commonwealth and among its citizens, work for economy and efficiency in government and volunteer their time to a variety of charitable organizations.”

The Birthday Celebration Ms. Ada Lawrence |
On October 21, 2008, the eighty-eighth birthday of Ms. Ada Lawrence, parts of her Family History Collection will be released for public viewing. The Birthday Celebration and Collection viewing will take place at Sunrise Assisted Living at Presque Isle Bay, 1012 West Bayfront Pkwy from 1 pm - 3 pm. Last year over seventy-five friends and acquaintances attended Ada’s eighty-seven Birthday Celebration held at the Martin Luther King Center’s Green Room. This year’s Celebration will be by invitation only and will last from 1 pm-2 pm. Public viewing of the Collection will take place beginning at 2 pm. Ms. Lawrence, a life-long resident of Erie traces her family roots back to the early 1800’s. The viewing will consist of never before seen pictures, artifacts, and documents.
Mr. Johnny Johnson, local researcher and historian will release his self-published research, “Erie's Africans Americans in 1880”. This is a very interesting and detailed research of African Americans in the City of Erie during this time period.

Liturgical composer and recording artist Marty Haugen is coming to Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Edinboro, PA on October 25, 2008. He will be presenting two workshops: To Serve as Jesus Did at 9:30 a.m., and Turn My Heart: The Journey from Brokeness to Healing at 1:00 p.m. The day will conclude with a songfest about 7:00 p.m., following the 5:30 p.m. Mass. Tips for Grandparents |
The Dr. Gertrude A. Barber National Institute will sponsor a presentation, “Tips for Grandparents: How to Support your Child & Grandchild Living with Autism.” The program will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 6-8 p.m. in the forum at the Barber National Institute.
Dr. Jennifer Freeland, clinical director of Autism and Behavioral Services at the Barber National Institute, will offer an informative program about the fastest growing disability in America. Following her presentation, Dr. Freeland will be joined by grandparents of children with autism for a panel discussion.
The program is offered free of charge, and refreshments will be provided. Facilities are handicap accessible, and ample free parking is available. Reservations are requested by calling the Barber National Institute at 453-7661.

Penn State Behrend is holding their 4th annual 24 For A Cure Dance Marathon. This charity event is going to be held at Erie Hall. All the money raised helps the fight against pediatric cancer through the Four Diamonds Fund. Through this charity, it aids in research and supporting families that are/were affected by cancer. On November 1-2, 2008 at 3:00 P.M., over 50 students will stand on their feet for 24 hours straight to raise money for the Four Diamonds Fund.
